Amelia National Golf & Country Club residents have so many fun activities at home, that it might be tempting to skip entertainment options elsewhere.
The resident amenities at this amazing master-planned community aren’t easily duplicated — hello, Tom Fazio-designed golf course — and, along with Amelia National’s prime northeast Florida location, help make the community one of ICI Homes’ signature properties.
But when Amelia National residents live a mere 10 minutes west of one of Florida’s top destinations — Amelia Island and its historic hometown of Fernandina Beach — well, it’s hello, amazing festivals and events.
The region’s multiple centuries of history are part of Florida’s own origin story. The Amelia Island region’s history, communities and cultures have rendered a rich mix of achievements and unique things to recognize.
Here’s why Amelia National residents can enjoy Amelia Island’s festivals.
The stage is always set
As a popular year-round retreat, Amelia Island attracts thousands of visitors each season for its Atlantic beaches, shopping, dining, and arts and entertainment.
Equally appealing is the island’s stunning natural beauty, enhanced by numerous local, state and national parks. And, don’t forget those 12 miles of beaches.
Interspersed among all that is Amelia Island’s festivals and events, which take place year-round. Hardly a month passes without something to celebrate and experience, including those big December holidays when many Amelia National residents pull out all the decorating, gifting and partying stops.
For example, the annual Dickens on Centre holiday festival has been a fixture for nearly a decade in downtown Fernandina Beach. Its costumed participants, activities and decorations mimic the town’s 19th-century aura, and is always a hit in early December.
But don’t think you’ve missed out if you miss Dickens on Centre. Other holiday events and community traditions of all kinds run throughout the month of December. Plus, though it’s a big one, Dickens on Centre is only the tip of Amelia Island’s festival iceberg.
Speaking of…
Haul out those calendars
New Amelia National residents may want to schedule some of the following experiences that are available only a few minutes and miles to the east. Tip: it’s only a sample. Check with your Amelia National neighbors, Amelia Island’s event listing and the Nassau County Chamber of Commerce for other recommendations.
Amelia Island Book Festival in February — loving reading and following the careers of favorite authors? This event delivers with talks, seminars, book signings and social occasions geared around all things literary.
Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in May — this event spotlights Amelia Island’s and Fernandina Beach’s combined history of having been under eight governments, and its claim as the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry.
Anything in October — the year’s 10th month hosts the most, with four events recently completed: Island Hop Craft Beer Fest, Amelia Island Jazz Festival, Zooma Amelia Island (women’s races of every distance) and the Northeast Florida Fair in nearby Callahan.
