Amelia National Golf & Country Club residents have so many great activities available in their own community that it can be dizzying to consider enjoying anything else! The amenities in this
Allow us to show you the many ways to enjoy Amelia Island’s beaches.
Take your pick
Amelia Island boasts 13 miles of coastline outlined by beaches, rivers and inlets. The city of Fernandina Beach offers no less than 40 public access points, along with a wealth of public park facilities. Nassau County provides five public beach access points, which includes two parks.
Decide how to spend your beach time and research the perfect spot for it. Some accesses are popular and busy with people enjoying the sand, ocean and water activities. Others are secluded, with their peace and quiet broken only by the chatter of shore birds and breaking waves.
Be mindful some Fernandina Beach accesses are pedestrian-only. If you drive to the beach, you want an access point that provides parking facilities. As of this writing, four Fernandina Beach accesses also provide ADA access (along with parking): North Beach Park, Main Beach Park, Seaside Park and the Matanzas access.
The hub of it all
The city of Fernandina Beach’s Main Beach Park is a worthy first stop if you’re a new Amelia National resident or one who hasn’t done much “beaching.” It’s located at 32 North Fletcher Avenue and offers all the creature comforts you need for a day at the beach.
Copious parking is a big plus. So are restrooms, outdoor showers, pavilions, a playground, picnic tables, two on-the-beach sand volleyball courts, a lawn for lounging or other recreational pursuits, and a basketball court.
All the fun isn’t on the sand
Once you’ve had your fill of reading, walking, napping and sunning, you might want to get active. Amelia Island’s wide beaches foster relaxation, but why not try a surfing lesson? Florida’s Atlantic Coast is renowned for its surfing communities and competitions.
Need a break from the sand but not the gorgeous beach views? Play some goofy golf — the kind you wouldn’t want to on Amelia National’s Tom Fazio course! — at Putt-Putt Amelia Island, a beachfront activity center. It’s located at 6 North Fletcher Avenue.
