Latest News from Amelia National Golf and Country Club
April 1, 2024Many of you have likely seen a new face in the Amelia National Golf Shop and around the practice facility over the past few weeks.  We are excited to formally introduce our New Lead Assistant Golf Professional, Peter “Pete” Milner! Pete started playing Par 3/ Pitch & Putt golf at the age of 7 and quickly developed a love and passion for the game. Despite the rules of golf in Ireland preventing him from playing a regulation course until the age of 11, he rose to highest level in Ireland as one of the youngest champion Pitch & Putt players ever.  He joined Ashbourne Golf Club on his 11th birthday and continued his growth, winning player of the year several years running.  As the accolades piled up, he was thrust into the County and International scene, where he was part of the youngest County Champions team in history, winning all of his matches. When he turned 18, he knew exactly what he wanted to do; play golf full-time. Since then, he has been growing and developing his game and coaching skills all while trying to play full-time on the Mini-Tours and competing in Monday Qualifiers/Open Events. He had some success winning in Germany on the PGA Circuit and some other smaller events. Eventually, his focus shifted fully to coaching and using his years of playing experience to help other golfers enjoy the game.  He received a Master Teaching “Class A” and a degree in Sports Science (focusing on spinal and motor control function).  He’s also a Certified Golf Biomechanical Practitioner and has an NLP in Sports Psychology. “I feel I am well equipped with my knowledge and experience to help any golfer of any level improve and enjoy the game more. I love the mental side of it as it’s what helped me transform my game to the next level.” We are excited to have Pete join the team here at Amelia National as he continues to share his passion for the game with all of our members and guests.  Welcome, Pete! As one of ICI Homes’ signature properties in northeast Florida, it’s a master-planned community full of amazing resident amenities near Amelia Island’s amazing foodie scene. That’s a tasty twofer in our view and one worth the exploration by current and prospective Amelia National residents. How? Read on for some scrumptious spring dining suggestions. Start where you are Don’t miss Chef’s menus at Amelia National’s lovely French Provincial Clubhouse. The social and dining options are legit here. Expect much-loved staples such as 19th Hole libations and snacks after a round on Amelia National’s Tom Fazio-designed golf course, and yummy lunches and dinners. But also calendar the showpiece experiences such as monthly Sunday Brunches and Suppers. And don’t forget to whip up a home-cooked meal and enjoy it on your own patio, lanai, or outdoor dining area any time. It’s spring! Take it outdoors Welcoming any new season, especially spring, with an outdoor meal sounds like a great plan. Plan a poolside picnic or at one of the many public parks near Amelia National. Some of Florida’s top state parks are only a few miles east of Amelia Island, and near Amelia National’s hometown of historic Fernandina Beach. Even better, take your portable feast to one of Amelia Island’s gorgeous beach parks or public accesses. There’s something about chowing down in fresh, salty air with beaming Florida sunshine overhead. Afterward, whittle any extra calories with a beach walk or bicycle ride. Speaking of outdoor dining… Foodie newcomers to try The options are endless in downtown Fernandina Beach. Many restaurants, cafes, and bars provide outdoor tables in courtyards or along the town’s bustling, beautiful sidewalks, where the people-watching always is a ton of fun. If you’re an Amelia National resident who hasn’t explored Amelia’s dining scene — or perhaps you’re in the midst of one of our Discovery Tours — you’re in for a true treat. Choose from the area’s many foodie tours, or ask for recommendations. Either way, there are a few newcomers that sound delectable (let us know how you like them). Twisted Table at 300 Ash Street – All the coffee things are here, along with sandwiches, breakfasts, and all-day quiche. Hofbrau Amelia at 19 South 3rd Street — put on the schedule for Octoberfest. German cuisine, beer, domestic taps, plus a beer garden. The Sound Cafe at 528 South 3rd Street — dreamy ribs, chicken, and more barbecue classics, accompanied by a classic, done-right sides, and live blues music.
